After Arlette returned to her home and family in Rue Elzevir, she was reunited with her friend Denise. The two had gotten to know each other when they were arrested in Clermont Ferrand. The two had miraculously had the opportunity to be together during the captivity in Auschwitz and on the subsequent death marches. This has undoubtedly had great significance for both of them in terms of mentally going through the cruel experiences and subsequently being able to put them behind them.

When Arlette had resumed her university studies in the summer of 1946, she received an invitation from the organization Alliance Francaise to go on summer vacation in Denmark with about 600 other young people from the Paris area. In the Alliance Francaise, it was believed that there were many young French people who needed to get their everyday life at a distance for a while after the end of the war. Arlette said yes thanks to the invitation and came to live in Copenhagen, where she subsequently met the man in her life - Ole Andersen.
